According to Cyprus tax legislation, a non-Cypriot individual (including EU Nationals) who spends more than 60 days in Cyprus in a calendar year can be considered as a non-domiciled tax resident in Cyprus and enjoy certain benefits of the Cypriot legislative and tax systems, provided that he/she meets cumulatively certain conditions such as:

  1. Spend cumulatively more than 60 days in Cyprus during a tax year;
  2. Do not spend more than a total of 183 days in any country within a tax year;
  3. Not a tax resident of another country within the same tax year;
  4. Carry on a business in Cyprus, be employed in Cyprus or be a Director in a company resident in Cyprus at any time during the tax year;
  5. Maintain a permanent residence in Cyprus, which can be either owned or rented.

The benefits of such non-domiciled tax residency include:

  • Exemption from taxation of dividends and interest earned for a period of 17 years after becoming Cyprus tax resident;
  • Profit arising from the sale of securities that include shares, bonds, debentures and others is exempted from taxation in Cyprus;
  • 50% of the salary of individuals earning in excess of €55,000 annually from Cyprus employer are exempt from tax for a period of 17 years;
  • Employment income from salaried services rendered outside Cyprus for more than 90 days in a tax year to a non-Cyprus resident employer is exempt from Cyprus tax.
